Hefty® EnergyBag® Program
The Hefty® EnergyBag® program provides participating residents a new way to collect plastics that are not accepted in the blue recycle cart – like candy wrappers and juice pouches – and converts them into valuable energy resource. See how it's done by checking out the video.
Materials collected in the Hefty® EnergyBag™ orange bags will be used at Renewlogy, a facility which converts hard-to-recycle plastics to synthetic diesel fuel.
The program is:
- A collection recovery program for hard-to-recycle plastics
- Complementary to mechanical recycling
- An important change in the way we handle waste
Boise is one of a handful of communities across the U.S. participating in this recovery program. Although more than 98 percent of households participate in the curbside recycling program, many plastics would have otherwise been thrown in the trash cart. With the help of community partner, Happy Family Brands, the City of Boise can now expand the types and amount of plastic that is collected and diverted from the landfill to be beneficially used.
What can be collected?
Check the Home Resource Guide on the left for quick reference on what plastics can go into the blue recycle cart and what can go into the orange bag. The Detailed Plastics Guide provides more information on plastic items.
